| 22i DESiGN » WEB DESiGN TiPS » ANTI-SPAM » EMAIL CLIENT Anti-Spam using the Email ClientYour email client is your email software. You've used javascript to help hide the email address in your webpage, used the ISP to block those that get past this defence and now you should configure your email software to filter spam again. OutlookIn Microsofts's Outlook top toolbar, go to TOOLS > MESSAGE RULES > MAIL
On the right hand side click New... and the "New Mail Rule" box appears with selection windows 1,2,3 and 4... Now, there are too many configurations to guide you through here, but here's an example of how to filter for spam. Window 1. Select the conditions for your rule: Tick the box "Where the subject line contains specific words" Window 2. Select the actions for your rule: You can tick "Delete it" or "Delete it from the server" Window 3. Rule Description (click on an underlined value to edit it" There should be a prompt here... Where the Subject line contains specific words
You may find yourself adding swear words and the like but if you don't enter the words here, you'll see more of them in your inbox than just the one typed here :) So add as many as you wish/can then hit the OK button to finish the list. Finally... Window 4. Name of the rule: Type in whatever you want, spam, junk, evil junkmail then hit OK in the "New Mail Rule" box and OK in the "Message Rules" box. If anything gets through this final filter keep an eye on the words that do get through and add them to your list. Do bear in mind that words in legitimate emails will also be filtered, so don't get to carried away and add every word you've ever seen in a spam email.. For example "offers" is a very common word used in spam and legit email alike.
