Microsoft Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer screen Microsoft's Internet Explorer became the dominant browser back in the late 1990s when there was the so-called "browser war" with Netscape's Navigator or Netscape Communicator. IE was bundled in with the Windows operating system and became the standard browser, continuing to take a share of the browser "market" of around 95%.

It hasn't changed much in the last 5/6 years, infact it hasn't changed much at all, apart from the security patches provided in Windows XP SP2. IE has no tabbed browsing or 3rd party plug-ins but it still the majority share browser, so designers shouldn't toally ignore it - just because standards compliant code works well in FireFox, doesn't mean that IE users will see the same, so it's always worth having a copy to test with.
